AFTER the big success of last year’s event, teams are invited once again to take part in the Tralee Inter-Firm Soccer Tournament in aid of Kerry Cancer Support Group.

The event last year saw 30 teams from all over town take part, from the gardaí, Kerry County Council, estates, local companies and businesses and it was a big success.

This year’s tournament will take place on Saturday, November 11, in various locations around town, with the final on in the Low Field.

The tournament was revived last year to recall the days when hundreds of people would watch the matches on summer nights from the 1960s right up to the late 90s.

“Last year proved a very popular day for all. We’re looking for teams made up of people over 35, although we might be flexible in allowing one member of the team to be younger,” said Pa Daly, one of the organisers.

Two teams from Cork and Dublin are already signed up after having a great time in town last year for it.

It’s a seven-a-side tournament, costing €100 per team to enter and for more information, call Eoin Kelliher on 087-2992392 or Simon McCarthy on 085-7475319.

Last year saw a team from Kerry County Council taking the Over 35 title while ‘The Boys From The Avenue’ won the Under 35s. This year there will an Over 35s only tournament with the odd exception!
