TRALEE Lions Club normally hold their annual Christmas collection around this time of year, but alas it can’t happen.

As a result of the uncertainty caused by Covid restrictions Tralee Lions Club will hold its annual Christmas street collection this year through a GoFundMe campaign.

The club is hoping that the public will continue to support the causes they support throughout the year and is extremely grateful to the public for its strong support to the Street Collection over the years.

Tralee Lions Club was formed over 50 years ago and their motto is “We Serve”. It is about helping others in the community through fundraising and other activities aimed at promoting the improvement of the lives of those most in need in the community.

“The main activities of the Tralee club are to assist local activities and projects such as the Tralee Community Bus trip coordinated jointly each year between the Lions Club and the local Community Garda, Tralee Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, Hawley Park School, and Eagle Lodge,” said new Tralee President, Fergus Courtney.

“We run a number of fundraising events during the year including an annual Table Quiz, an annual Golf Classic and a December Street Collection in advance of Christmas. All funds raised go directly to local charities.” Unfortunately, this year our usual fundraising activities have not been possible.

The club meets monthly on the second Tuesday of every month from October through to May at the Meadowlands Hotel, Tralee.

It is not an exclusive club and they are always looking for new members and volunteers. Everyone is welcome.

“It is a very worthwhile experience as evidenced by many of the longstanding members of the club. Our members give as much or a little time as they can afford but together we achieve great things and enjoy great experiences,” said Fergus.
