Paul Horan Jr talked about his struggle with unemployment and how the LES helped him get back into the workforce.

THE Tralee Local Employment Service (LES) recently featured on RTE’s ‘Nationwide’ with the show looking at the work being done by the service in helping people get the confidence and skills to get back into employment.

Paul Horan Jr is a local man who currently works in Sean Hussey’s store in town and  featured on last Friday’s programme, where he talks about about his struggle with unemployment before he sought help with the LES. This eventually led to his return to the workforce.

“I was just shy of four years unemployed and I couldn’t help out at home financially. That was the big, big issue that I had. It was really bad, one of the worst experiences of my life,” said Paul on the show.

“The first person that I met [in the Tralee LES] was Helen, she definitely kept me going. First of all, because I was low on confidence, [she] helped to build it back up by doing two or three courses. Then, when retail sales came up, my eyes just lit up and I thought ‘that’s the one for me’,” he continued.

“When I got employed, getting up in the morning and working from 9-6 and coming home tired, that was the main thing that I found hard at the start. Definitely working 9-6, doing a days work, meeting people, I’d definitely take what I’m doing now over the social anyday. I wouldn’t go back,” he finishes.
