The trip will include a visit to the White House and Capitol Hill to meet US President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden who are hosting bilateral meetings with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

The Kerry native will also be attending a number of high profile business networking events as the channel reaches out to the global Irish Diaspora.

“As a very proud Kerry man I will be flying the flag for the county and the country at all of these important events,” he said.

“There are so many Kerry natives in the USA and we will be covering their stories during the weeklong trip. We have features planned on the GAA, we will be covering several St Patrick’s Day parades, we will be looking at business, culture and the social fabric of the Kerry and Irish community in the states,” he said.

On a personal level Hurley said the trip to the White House on March 17 was a lifelong ambition and a huge opportunity to promote Irish TV. “I have watched this event over the past 10 years and always dreamt about covering it myself.  On St Patrick’s Day morning we will be meeting Vice President Joe Biden before heading off to the Oval Office and the White House to meet President Barack Obama. In the afternoon on March 17 we will be filming at the White House where the traditional Shamrock presentation to President Barack Obama will take place,” he said.

Irish TV is Ireland’s only international TV station broadcasting on Sky 191, Freesat 400, eircom’s eVision 191, all free to air boxes and online www.irishtv.ie

  1. Mr. Hurley,
An hour’s drive from the White House is Annapolis, Maryland, where your fellow Kerryman (Currans, Farranfore) John Patrick Barry is the Grand Marshall of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and our daughter, Margaret Barry McLemore, carries on the Irish/Kerry/Clare tradition at her shop Irish Traditions on Main Street.
I do hope you enjoy a marvelous and eventful trip to America.
    Slainte.
