Tralee Man To Sing In Productions At Wexford Opera Festival

A BARITONE from Tralee is set to perform as part of the world renowned Wexford Festival Opera this month.

Cormac Lawlor from Tralee will perform with the chorus in two of the main stage operas, ‘Herculanum’ and ‘Vanessa’.

The 65th Wexford Festival Opera will take place over 12 days from October 26 to  November 6. This world renowned Festival features artists from around the world who all gather in Wexford for this 12 day celebration of opera.

Cormac is a graduate of the Royal Irish Academy of Music where he studied under Veronica Dunne.

Cormac is currently studying under Judith Mok and recently completed a term as a Young Associated Artist with Opera Theatre Company in Dublin before going on to work with companies such as NI Opera, Glyndebourne Opera Festival and Opera Holland Park.

Operatic roles include Bonze in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly with RTE NCO, Colline in Puccini’s La Boheme with Lyric Opera, 3rd Jew in Strauss Salome with NI Opera, the King of Egypt in Verdi’s Aida, Kromow in Lehar’s The Merry Widow, An Old Gypsy in Verdi’s Il Trovatore and Baron Douphol in Verdi’s La Traviata with Lyric Opera Productions.

As a student at RIAM, he has also sung the roles of Supt. Budd in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring, David in Samuel Barber’s A Hand of Bridge, Cadmus in Handel’s Semele and Simone in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.

His concert works include Haydn’s Stabet Mater, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat, Vaughan William’s A Serenade to Music and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.
