Maurice Kelter.

A TRALEE man will attempt his first ever ultramarathon with a distance of 66km in aid of a local charity, all within 2km of his house.

Maurice’s Kelter’s mother, Anne, would have been celebrating her 66th birthday on this Sunday April 19th this year, so in honour of her, Maurice (27) wants to run a kilometre for each year of her life.

Anne tragically passed away from cancer on July 15, 2018. If she was around today and still battling her illness, Maurice knows there is one place she would look to for support, guidance and a community of friends.

That place would be Recovery Haven Kerry, who were always a fantastic support network for her during times of need. The Tralee man’s goal is to raise at least €10 per kilometre for a total of €660.

Recovery Haven require an average of €200,000 annually to keep their doors open and with no State funding available, they rely fully on fundraising and donations.

Fundraising is currently at a standstill due to Covid-19 restrictions, so the money raised from this ultramarathon challenge will help keep these invaluable services open via phone and email.

The campaign has really taken off and exceeded all expectations by already raising over €6,000 just over the Easter weekend. Here is a link to the campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/f/ULTRA66
