Tralee Man Wins Best Start-Up Award At IBYE Regional Finals

A TRALEE man won a top prize at a regional final of Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE) competition yesterday.

Derek Counihan, age 32 from Tralee,  founder of Harpoon which is based in HQ Tralee, won the Best Start-Up Award at the Mid West Finals of Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur 2017 held in Bunratty Castle Hotel.

This business provides services to support businesses monetise their digital marketing using up to date technology.

In November, Derek won the overall top prize at the Kerry Final of Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE) competition and the category for Best Start-Up Business with an investment fund from LEO Kerry worth €15,000.

In total, 24 Category Winners will be selected to progress to the National Final in March.
The 24 Finalists will compete for the three National Category Awards for Best Business Idea, Best Start Up Business and Best Established Business. In addition Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur for 2017 will be announced.
