CLIMBERS are flocking to Carrauntoohil from all four corners of country to take advantage of the ice climbing conditions on Ireland’s highest peak.

Tralee climbers, Tim Galvin and Mike Crowley climbed Carrauntoohil last week and took these fantastic shots.

Tim Galvin, of Gally’s Bar and Restaurant, has been going up on the mountain every two days while great conditions for ice climbing are still here.

“When I took those photos we were up there for sunrise,” said Tim.

“We started at 4am and began ice climbing about 5:30am, so we got all the ice gear and the crampons on then. It’s a very dangerous climb so you would need to be an experienced climber. Novices are supposed to keep off the mountain in this weather, especially Carrauntoohil, which is technically closed off at the moment,” said Tim.

“Normally you would have to go to the Alps to get these conditions so there are people coming from all over the country. It saves money on a trip abroad which is fantastic,” said Tim.

Tim was also on Mount Brandon on Sunday and took some great photos.
