BRIEF news from the monthly Tralee Municipal District meeting at Kerry County Council buildings on Monday.

• THE contract to replace lead water pipes in St Brendan’s Park is to be awarded in the next two weeks.

At the Tralee Municipal District meeting, councillors heard the tendering process by Irish Water is almost complete.

The replacement of 2.2km of lead water pipes in Tralee estates is to be completed by mid to late 2015.

• SHOPPERS are likely to get free parking periods in Tralee Town Centre in the run up to Christmas. Cllr Tom McEllistrim called for the introduction of a one hour free parking period for motorists to help stimulate business in the town.

Tralee Municipal District Manager, Charlie O’Sullivan said that while Cllr McEllistrim’s proposal could prove problematic he said he would have no objection to parking incentives in the run up to Christmas that Tralee Town Council promoted over the past few years.
