Tralee Musical Society ‘AIMS’ For Success

THERE were celebrations in town on Sunday when Tralee Musical Society got word they had been nominated five times in the Association of Irish Musical Awards (AIMS) this year.

The award nominations are in Best Overall, Best Male Singer – Alan Teahan, Best Actress – Janna Foley, Best Technical and Best Ensemble for Children’s Chorus.

“Its a fantastic event. It’s like the mini-Oscars,” said Jackie O’Mahony club secretary.

“We’re in the top five for the Overall show which is the big one and we’re up against Killarney so there should be a bit of local friendly rivalry,” said Jackie.

Tralee Musical Society have tasted success previously in the Best Overall Show category when, in 2011, they won for their production of ‘Micheal Collins’.

The Tralee interest doesn’t stop there though, for the Light Opera Society’s Tim Landers was also nominated for Best Comedian for his performance in ‘The Producers’.

The awards take place on June 14 in the INEC, Killarney.
