Tralee has been named as a boomtown in a recent article.

TRALEE has been named as an emerging ‘boomtown’ in an article published yesterday on the  ‘Irish Independent’ website.

The town is described as thriving and one that has battled back from its low-points suffered during the recession, in a feature on booming towns in Ireland which also includes features on Clifden, Carlingford and Kilkenny.

The spirit and fight of the local people is cited as a main reason for the upturn in the towns fortunes.

Much praise is given to the efforts of the ‘Tralee Task Force’ which, back in 2011, gathered all the key agencies, interest groups and local organisations, including the old town council, Tralee Chamber of Commerce, local tidy towns and other groups together to try and find a solution to the economic woes.

This led to the foundation of the ‘Tralee Chamber Alliance’ which has helped the town to make massive strides forward since its formation.

Recent victories include gold medals in the ‘Tidy Towns’ competition and a gold medal in the Entente Florale. This is coupled with the special President’s Award for its community garden at Tobar Naofa and the town was also listed as one of the top 10 destinations in Ireland by global giants TripAdvisor.

The article is great publicity for the town where many new jobs are being created.

The recent developments with two new hotels (The Ashe Hotel and Benners) opening in the town, along with opening of the new nightclub ‘Quarters’   and the recent announcement that 16 new jobs are to be created by ‘Portman Travel’ by the end of the year, is sure to help cement this ‘thriving’ image with the creation of over 100 new jobs.

It’s fair to say the our town is on the up and long may it continue.
