traleeparnells 2Another Milestone for Tralee Parnells:

On April 30th 2012 Parnells Hurling club was officially reformed, well done to everyone that has helped the club grow in just 3 years, from one coach (Mark Ryall) and thirteen under 14 players at our first training session in Caherslee to now having over 200 boys and girls playing from Under 6 to Minors, around 40 qualified coaches and a hard working Committee and subcommittee groups.

Special thanks to Pro-Plan Property management that have stuck with the club from day one. Thanks to the local businesses that contribute to the club, many of whom look for no recognition.

Parnell’s club will continue to promote Hurling and Camogie in primary schools and local communities around the Tralee area; we will encourage every child to try hurling and camogie at least once.

This week we held a 2nd class blitz with 200 kids, in May we plan to run a 3rd class and 4th class blitz along with a monster 5th and 6th class blitz where all primary schools will be invited to send kids.

In 2017 the club plan to apply to the County Board to play junior hurling.  Anyone that wants to help the club grow only needs to approach a club member and we’ll find a place for you.  Ní Neart go cur Le chéile – There is no strength without unity.

Under 12 League:

Our U12 team travelled to Kilmoyley on Friday night last. A strong Kilmoyley side, with the aide of a strong breeze took command of the game right from the start. Our boys battled hard, but playing against a strong wind, found it difficult to secure territory.

Evan Foley played his second night in goals and despite being well tested made some excellent saves, his accurate puck-outs in the 2nd half were a feature of the game. The score at half time was 4-3 to 1-1.

In the 2nd half our U12’s came back into the game with a real team effort. Tadhg Reen was a power house in the backs defending hard and keeping scores to a minimum. Graham Sheehy was fast on the ball and made some great clearances.

Dara Hannon was a strong ball winner in the half forward line. Goals from Joey Nagle, Edward Sheehy, Dara Hannon and Jamie Fitzgerald were much deserved, all supported by the excellent work of Josh Roche. Making their u12 debuts were Jack Doyle and Cathal Concaigh, both played extremely well.

Midfielder’s Darragh Moloney and Jamie Fitzgerald showed some great work rate and ball winning ability. The game turned around dramatically with the U12’s managing to secure 3-2 in the second half. However, Kilmoyley held on for victory and the final score was 4-08 to 4-03. The Tralee Parnells player of the night was Graeme Sheehy, closely followed by Tadhg Reen. Overall the U12’s yet again showed fantastic spirit to turn the game around and displayed excellent skills and should be very proud of their efforts. Next up a home game v Kenmare at 7:00pm on Friday May 1st.
Austin Stack Park Parnells Under 12 Exhibition:

Well done to the Parnells under 12s who played an exhibition game against a South Kerry selection at half time of the Christy Ring Cup Rd 1 game in Austin Stacks Saturday where Kerry overcame Down. It was great to the the club members and followers who came along in their Parnells colours, to support both Kerry and Parnells.

Underage Coaching Series:

See Parnells Facebook page, for the latest installment, on the skill of hooking. To David, this is one of the most under used skills in Hurling and can be coached in every session and at any age group.

Tralee Schools Hurling Blitz:

On Tuesday the 28th, in Mitchell’s we had 201 second class boys and girls hurling from the following 6 schools. Spa NS v’s Moyderwell, Scoil Mhic Easmainn v’s Blennerville, Listellick v’s O Breannain.  David O Dea was co-ordinating the event and Parnells three primary school coaches (Joe Brennan, Giles O Grady, Colum Harty) were also present.

Information sheet with club details  and training days/times were distributed by the supervising teachers to the players.  It was a magnificent effort by the 4 in poor enough conditions and something clubs needs more of.  The coaches had 75 Hurleys & helmets to hand out.  See pictures on Parnells Facebook page.  In May there are plans to run a 3rd,4th class blitz on separate days and then a 5th and 6th class blitz on the the same day.
Under 14 Féile 2015:

he preceding Semi Final between Causeway and St. Brendan’s Ardfert was a low scoring first half, at 0-2 to 1-0 going in for half time, and the second semi final started with similarly low scoring on a damp evening and slow pitch, Parnells trailing to Rathmore 0-4 when the whistle sounded after the first twenty minutes.  Throughout the second half Parnells battled to close the gap, while the Tralee defense held solid and conceded no second half score.

While Parnells took an early point,  one low ball ball skidded through the square but went just inches to the outside of the right upright.  Pressing hard in the closing stages, Devon Burns came forward to drop two 65s nicely into the large square, but Rathmore managed to keep their advantage and stayed ahead to the finish.  It was an exciting game despite the low scoring, with no shortage of effort and commitment.

Rathmore had their revenge for the recent Parnells league victory, snatched in the dying minutes in Caherslee.  On this occasion the victory is theirs, we wish them luck going through to face St. Brendan’s Ardfert who won the other Semi Final.
