North Kerry Under 10 Blitz:

The North Kerry Hurling Board Under 10 Blitz at Caherslee, Saturday, 2nd of September, hosted by Tralee Parnells, was a great day of hurling for teams from across Kerry.

Ger Donnelan had coordinated a schedule packed full of fixtures, with 13 teams from 11 clubs playing out 21 matches each with 2 halves of 8 minutes a side, involving in total around 120 young players.

With simultaneous matches playing on the 4 pitches marked out at Caherslee from 10 am, it was all action and Paddy White and his 3 teenage referees were kept busy officiating on 4 fixtures in each 25 minute time slot.

Thanks to John Ross for organising the referees for the day, their punctuality and efficiency helped the entire blitz run off smoothly, despite the rain that came in before noon, with one very heavy shower.

After consulting the clubs, it was decided to play on once this shower passed and thanks to the planning and preparation by Ger Donnelan and his group of mentors, the whole day went off very well and concluded close to the planned finish time after 1 pm.

Parnells entered two teams and both played very well in pretty awful conditions. Our first team made up of mostly 10 year olds performed magnificently and won all 4 games against Ballyduff Coiste Na nÓg, Kilmoyley Hurling club, Lixnaw GAA Club and Kenmare Shamrocks GAA.

The second team made up of 8 and 9 year olds played Causeway, Dr. Crokes GAA and St Brendans and although they played very well the lads lost the games by a single score. These games will stand to the 8 and 9 year olds for next year. Well done to all players and mentors for sticking the weather conditions.

Thanks to the Parnells club members for setting up the fields and taking all the goals and equipment down again afterwards.  A great day out for the players and their management team of Ger Donnellan, Morgan O’Connell,  Agnes Sheehy and their club mentor helpers.

Lining out for Tralee Parnells under 10s on the day we had Adam O’Flaherty, Brian Reidy, Brian Heaphy, Ben Lichfield, Cathal Fitzgerald, Cathal O’Sullivan, Christian Kennedy, Cian Harris, Conor McGibney, Daniel Maloney, Daniel Spring, David Sargent, Eoghan Costello, Eoghan Crowley, Fionnan Ryan, Jack Shanahan, Jack Canty, Jayden Sugrue, Johnny Dawson, Liam Cooper, Liam O’Connell, Luke O’Mahony, Luke Hanafin, Rory O’Flaherty, Ryan Sheehy, Samuel de Dios, Sean Og O’Connor, Tom Gleasure, Tom Donnellan, Tomas O’Connell, William Sheerin.

Under 16s v Causeway:

On Saturday evening Tralee Parnells under 16s hosted Causeway at Caherslee, with John Ross officiating. The teams played out a very competitive first half, with Parnell creating some good chances in around the square but failing to capitalise fully, withe the visiting full back line repeatedly clearing the danger.

From the restart the action was again end to end, but as the half went on, the fresh legs from the home bench helped the Parnells payers gain an edge. Darragh Reen, who played well throughout at midfield, went on one penetrating run that finished on the left of the square, from where his shot found the net.

Causeway battled on but were unable to close the gap Parnells had opened and it was the home side who ran out winners 5-10 to 3-09, on a surface that held up very well, despite the Met Éireann forecast of rain that made the conditions slippery at times. Next up in the division Parnells are at Kilmoyley Sat Sep 16 at 5 and home to Abbeydorney Sat 23rd.

U14 North Kerry final vs Crotta:

Our under 14s were in action against Abbeydorney GAA in the North Kerry Championship Tuesday evening in Caherslee. Parnells started well and led 1-06 to 0-03 at half time. Abbeydorney made a few positional changes for the second half and they came right back into the game. A few well taken goals settled our lads and we finished the game winning 5-09 to 3-04. U14 North Kerry final between Parnells and Crotta will be played Thursday the 7th of September, time and venue to be confirmed.

Under 15 Camogie:

Our Cork Avondhu league visit to Kilworth near Fermoy is now rescheduled for Sat 16th of September.
