CBS Seniors Munster Schools Final:

Hard luck to Tralee CBS who lost to Mount Sion in the  U18.5 Munster final yesterday. The game which was played in reckless conditions in Mallow saw the Green leading at half time 0-08 to 1-01. Playing against a gale in the second half the lads battled hard but a free with the last puck of the game saw the Waterford team win on a final scoreline of 1-09 to 1-08.  Disappointing to lose a tight game but its great for Parnells to see so many club players on CBS Senior panel along with our joint minor manager Mark Ryall in charge of the team.  Keep up the great work lads.

Camogie Under 8 and 10:

Parnells have lots of positives to report from the Camogie Under 8 and 10 panels for 2017. Between 2016 and 2017, there was an 86% increase in female player numbers at U8 and U10.

At the beginning of the season, Suzanne Chute was assisted by Katie Doyle and Loretto O’Sullivan in training a mixture of girls, aged 6-9. Girls aged 10 trained with the U12’s.  Numbers built steadily over the season as word got out that there was a girls-only U8 team.

2017 was the first season that U8 girls did not play mixed with boys.  By the end of the season, 2 training groups had formed, and will follow through to 2018.  U10’s managed by Katie Trant, with mentors: Conor Clifford, Katie Doyle and Loretto O Sullivan.

U8’s managed by Suzanne Chute with mentors: Ide Hennessy and Áine O’Sullivan.  here are some more enthusiastic parents on the sidelines that will be invited to join in the fun in 2018!  In terms of fixtures,  early in the season, we were fielding teams of mixed ages: 6 to 9. By the end of the season, we were fielding full U8 and U10 teams.

U8’s and U10’s competed in blitzes hosted by Killarney, Causeway and CillArd. We played the 4 Kerry teams as well as teams from Limerick and Cork.

This was the first year that the Kerry clubs were obliged to invite at least 2 out-of-county to our blitzes. It was a big success; it solidified relationships with outside clubs and made blitzes livelier for the players.  Tralee Parnells hosted over 100 girls, aged 6-10, at its blitz at Na Gaeil on Sep 2.

We had an excellent day out despite the early arrival of yellow alert rain!   The girls gave a half-time match display at Austin Stack Park at Kerry v. Clare senior camogie in July .  U10’s won or drew most of their matches during the season.  Older U10’s were invited to compete in all U12 fixtures.

A number of our older girls travelled to Mallow for an U11’s Munster Blitz, enjoying a great day.  We also entered a young U9 team in the Veronica Stack Memorial Tournament in Killarney. 3 x U9’s lined out with the U12’s to make up numbers on the day. The younger girls improved as the matches progressed, and were happily challenged to “up” their game.
