Minor Training:
Parnells Thursday Minor Training is now finished for 2017 and will resume again in January.  Don’t forget to ask Santy to bring a spare hurley.

General Camogie Team highlights:  
In the next notes we hope to bring readers updates on general developments across all our Camogie Teams in 2017.

Camogie Under 12, 14 and 16:
Following on from previous encouraging updates on our younger age teams, this week we have plenty of good news to report positives to report from the Camogie Under 12, 14 and 16 panels for 2017. Between 2016 and 2017, there was a 42% increase in female player numbers at U12, U14 and U16.

Under 12 team highlights:

Team Management was by Richard McCluskey. The team was trained by Richard, Ann O’Loughlin and Luke O’Loughlin. Séamus Cadogan supported, when he wasn’t fund-raising and chasing up on player registration.

Fixtures; U12’s participated in the Camogie Association’s Munster blitz, Camán To Thurles, at Semple Stadium on April 1 v. teams from Clare, Cork and Tipperary.  U12’s participated in the Camogie Association’s All-Ireland blitz, Camán To Croker, at Croke Park on April 17 v. 3 of the other 63 teams in attendance. Hannah Sharkey refereed.  U12’s played in Division B of the County League, competing in 2 rounds of matches v. Causeway, CillArd and Killarney. U12’s lost the B Final v. Killarney on Sep 24.  U11’s played 3 teams in a Munster blitz at Mallow GAA on Sep 23. Katie Dwyer and Saoirse Maloney refereed.  Older U12’s were invited to compete in U14 fixtures and played pivotal roles in winning the U14 Féile B Final.

Under 14 team highlights: 

Team Management was by Mike Roger O Sullivan and Carmel O’Shea-Maloney. The team was trained, with the U16’s, by Mike and Carmel, with help from Miriam Rohan and Aisling Sharkey.

Fixtures; Féile na nGael: U14’s won the Féile B Final v. Killarney.  Féile Skillstar: having run off a club skills competition, Clodagh O’Sullivan and Saoirse Maloney represented the club at the county level; Saoirse came in 3rd.  County League: U14’s conceded all matches in the County League to the A teams and played the benches of the A teams to get more competitive playing time.

Killarney did not field an U14 team in the league and there was no B Final   U13’s played 3 teams in a Munster blitz at Mallow GAA on Sep 30.  U13’s played 2 friendly home matches v. St. Vincent’s, Dublin on Oct 28.  All U14’s were invited to compete in U15 and U16 fixtures and played pivotal roles in contesting the Avondhu League in Cork.  Kerry U14 Development Squad; All Tralee Parnells U14 players were invited to train with the squad. 4 players took up the opportunity: Katie Dwyer, Saoirse Maloney, Shona O’Connor, Clodagh O’Sullivan.

All 4 Tralee Parnells players were picked for the panels that played in blitzes in Mallow (April 15) and Tipp (Aug), and in the All-Ireland U14 Blitz in Dublin on Sep 9. Katie, Saoirse and Clodagh won All-Ireland medals!  Tralee Parnells coach, Richard McCluskey, was actively involved in training the Kerry U14’s

Under 16 team highlights: 

Team Management was by Mike Roger O’Sullivan and Carmel O’Shea-Maloney. The team was trained, with the U14’s, by Mike and Carmel, with help from Miriam Rohan and Aisling Sharkey.

Fixtures;  There were no U16 club matches in Kerry in 2017.  On Mar 11, U16’s played a blitz in Mahon v. Cork divisional teams.  U16’s played a challenge match v. the rest of the Kerry U16 panel on June 24.  Avondhu U15 League: the U16 team was accepted into a Cork league and played Buttevant on Aug 19 (lost) and Kilworth on Sep 16 (won). One team (Newtown) withdrew from the league and the 4th match was conceded to Mallow, as we could not field a team within the required timeframe.  U16’s were invited to play a challenge match v. CillArd U14’s on Sep 14.

Kerry U15/16 Development Squad;  All Tralee Parnells U13, U14, U15 and U16 players were invited to train with the squad. 8 players took up the opportunity: Clodagh Begley, Caoimhe Donnelly, Katie Dwyer, Lia O’Connell, Ruth O’Connell, Saoirse Maloney, Hannah Sharkey, Yasmine Sultan.

All available players were picked for the panels that played in a series of blitzes in Kilkenny, Clare and Mallow culminating in an All-Ireland U15 Blitz in Abbotstown. Caoimhe, Katie, Saoirse, Lia and Yasmine won All-Ireland U15 medals!  Tralee Parnells coach, Richard McCluskey, was actively involved in training the Kerry U15/16’s.  Kerry Minor Squad: Clodagh Begley was called up to the Kerry Minor panel when the U16 season concluded.

Sympathies: 
The club would like to extend our sympathies on their recent bereavement to our club officer Stephen Buttimer and family.
