Our on field activities finally kicked off last weekend with a number of our teams in action in Coiste na nÓg competitions.

U12 Hurling
Tralee Parnells 1-07 Lixnaw 0-03
Round 1 of the U12 County league saw Tralee Parnells registered an away win in Lixnaw last Friday. With the benefit of a stiff breeze, the home team dominated possession and territory in first half. Lixnaw scoring changes were limited by a strong rear-guard action by Parnells defenders and goalkeeper. A long-range point by Tralee midfielder David Sargent just before the break meant the hosts lead by 2 points to 1 at half time. Tralee Parnell’s took control of the game in the third quarter. A goal by Connor McGibney, together with points by David Sargent (3) Luke Hanafin O’Meara (2) and Sean Sargent (1) saw Parnells build what turned out to be an unassailable lead. Lixnaw rallied in the final quarter but could only produce a single point. Final score Lixnaw 0-03 Tralee Parnells 1-07. There were many strong performances but the standout player was Tralee Parnells half back Brian Reidy

U14 Hurling

Parnells 3-09 Crotta 1-08

On a newly sodded Caherslee pitch, Tralee Parnells got their U14 Coiste na nOg campaign off to a winning start with a battling win against Crotta last Saturday on a perfect evening for hurling. Crotta got off to the better start and had a few points on the board before Parnells got off the mark. In fact it could have been worse only for a great penalty save by Cian Harris, which he deflected over the bar. Gradually Parnells got on top and goals from Will Somers and a great whipped effort by Odhran Kerins had the boys leading 2-6 0-5 at half time. Crotta hit a purple patch after half time and got within 3 points with a well taken goal. But Parnells didn’t lie down and with captain Seán Barrett covering every blade of grass, Parnells re-established their superiority. After peppering the Crotta goalmouth but unable to apply the required finish, another goal by Will Somers secured the victory Parnells deserved. After waiting so long to get back on the pitch, it was great to see the boys enjoying their hurling and working so well as a team. Next up Ballyduff away next Saturday.
