Parnells 2015 training for all the younger age groups restarts at the new Mitchells on Friday the 6th of March at 7pm. New members and volunteers always welcome.

Bag Packing Sat 7th of March:
Parnells are booked into Horans Dunnes for a bag packing day on Saturday the 7th of March. Starts from 10am so if anyone wants to help out and get a preferred slot, please contact David ASAP.

St. Patrick’s Day Volunteers:
We hope to repeat our successful participation in the Tralee St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Volunteers needed to distribute flyers as we march along and to help with the movable shootout against our Parnells goalies.

Basic Tips for Coaching Skills to Children:
Parnells have started posting a series of handy hurling tips for parents online. See our Facebook page this week for tips on using the correct length and weighted hurley.

Forum on juvenile hurling and camogie in Kerry

There was a series of very interesting presentations and discussions at the forum on juvenile hurling and camogie in Kerry. On Friday the 27th of February, the speakers and topics included people in very suitable positions to offer their considered views. Parnells hope to make a recording of these interesting discussions available online. The topics covered and speakers were :-

The National Situation (Tommy Lanigan. Chairman of James Stephens GAA Club, Kilkenny and Chairman of the National Hurling Development Committee) – Expanding the Game (Dermot Reen. Chairman of Tralee Parnells.) – Our Hurling Clubs (Maurice Leahy, played hurling and football for a long time. Managed games with Kerry during its Golden years.

Won a county championship with Newtownshandrum in 1976. Returned to Causeway the following year where he played and coached in their 4 in a row county championship team. Present job 26yrs as coaching officer.) – Hurling in Schools (John Griffin. Primary schools teacher. Current captain and most senior player of the Kerry team. Worked as a full time coach.) – Camogie in Kerry (David Doyle. An Abbeydorney man.

30yrs of age and a primary schools teacher. Has been chairman of Camogie for past 5yrs during which Camogie has grown from a single u14 team to 4 inter county teams. There has been a Kerry senior Camogie team for the past 3 yrs. and for each of these they have contested an All-Ireland final.) – Developmental Squads (Ger McCarthy. Has a life lifelong involvement going back to being a Causeway player and administrator.

Managed the Kerry minor hurling team for 4yrs. U21 and senior selector 1998/99 and 2000. Hurling officer since 2013.) – Fixtures and Competitions (Mike Leahy Played Kerry minor. Abbeydorney senior and intermediate. Chairman of the North Kerry Board for the past 5 years during overseeing the streamlining of fixtures and completion of competitions on time. Also has been a great supporter of Tralee Parnells.)
