Under 14/16 Planning for 2017:

Tralee Parnells under 14 and 16 teams had a  meeting for mentors, players and parents on Sunday to start planning for the 2017 season at these grades.

Reports to the AGM:
Our extracts from Reports to the AGM, this week are drawn from the Treasurer area. This year we consolidated on expenditure and 2016 was also the year in which we began our fundraising efforts for our capital account to make plans for our future.

As the funds from our major fundraiser for the year, our Race Night, were being ring-fenced for our capital account, a decision was made to only hold a few minor fundraisers to ensure we kept on top of our expenditure.

Early in the year, we held a Bag Packing day. We also ran a fundraiser to offset the costs of buying 2 new sets of Juvenile Goalposts. I would like to thank all the mentors and parents for their support in all these fundraisers.

The 2 Davids, O’Dea and Brick, came up with a great idea of running Easter and Summer Hurling Camps, to keep the interest going during the holiday periods. These were well received and well attended and income from both the camps offset the cost of paying the coaches and the hire of the IT (for the Easter Camp).

As our members move through the age groups they are more likely to have their own hurley and helmet, so we are seeing less of a reliance on Parnells providing our players with equipment.

Accordingly, we reduced our spend on equipment.  A decision was made to provide coaching at certain times of the year to schools who supported hurling in their schools and from whom we were getting signed up members.

The Club launched its Development Plan during the year.  The final plan stated 8 items to be addressed from a Finance perspective.

The first item was to setup a Capital Development Fund and to target a fundraising event every year that would add to the Fund. The account was setup in 2015 and we held our first fundraising event, a Race Night, in April 2016 (item 7 on the Club Plan).

This is a very good start to our Capital Fund and I would like to thank the Finance Committee and everyone else that helped out in any way. I would particularly like to thank the race sponsors, programme sponsors and anyone that bought a horse for their support.

I would also like to thank the Rose Hotel who provided the venue free of charge to us. I think everyone that attended on the night enjoyed themselves and with the right effort (and timing), this can become an annual or bi-annual event.

The club in general goes from strength to strength and it is great to see new parents and mentors helping out at each age group. It is particularly pleasing to see Parnells players representing themselves and the club on County teams.

The launch of the Development plan was a major milestone this year and the club and particularly the Chairman should be very proud of its efforts in this regard. It is vitally important that this is a living document and that we review progress every year.

We achieved so much this year, both on and off the field.  Finally, I would like to thank all those who assisted me during the year, notably my co-Treasurer, Chris Moloney and the Finance Committee. Particular thanks to our Secretary David for all his hard work.
