traleeparnells 2Under 13:
Out u13s played a great match away to Kilmoyley only losing out by a last attack goal. There were some outstanding performances. In the absence of our regular goalkeeper Evan Foley volunteered and pulled off a series of fine saves.

Darragh Maloney is playing his best ever hurling battling and winning ball and driving forward with purpose. Joey Nagle started at wing forward where he picked up where he left off recently running at pace and crashing the ball to the back of the net before being transferred to the half back line where he closed down a threatening opponent.

Gary Lynch is also solid in the backs. Graham Sheehy, Jamie Fitzgerald, Mark Roche and Daire Murphy all combined to produce superb attacking team play.

This team lacks individual stars but is more evenly balanced and has the potential to be a better combined unit. Final score Kilmoyley 5-7 Parnells 3-8 on Tues 21st June ’16.

Whilst the u13 competition has finished there is upcoming u14 and 15 matches. Because of Feile football training will be suspended this Friday. We wish all our dual players the best of luck. We resume training Tues 28th June.

Thank you to Bishopstown:
Thank you to Bishopstown Camogie for the sportsmanship and hospitality shown to our U14/15 team during our visit on Sat June 18. We were treated to a wall ball warm-up by one of the local coaches.

This was followed by a friendly match during which we held our own against the home team in sunny heat! Newcomers, Aine O’Sullivan and Siobhán Foran had electric games.

Staunch defender, Katie Dwyer, cleared the danger zone throughout the match. All-rounder, Clódagh Begley, lobbed the ball forward regularly and even secured the score of the game from the half-way line.

We enjoyed the feast laid on for us by B’town and the craic on the bus with our own U10 boys team. Thank you to Tralee Parnells coach, Ger Reidy, and his friend, John Crowley, in Bishopstown for connecting the 2 clubs. We look forward to their visit to Tralee in September.

Cumann Na mBunscoil:
How many Tralee Parnells players were on the Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn team in the Cumann Na mBunscoil, Division 2 Final (11?). The club is keeping hurling alive and well in Tralee! Hard luck to the lads who met a very strong team from St. John’s Kenmare. Beidh lá eile ag an bPaorach!

Hurl Smart Week:
Over 80 Camogie clubs took part recently in the 5th Annual ‘Hurl Smart Week’ in partnership with ChildFund and the Dream Bike Initiative. Running from June 6th-12th, Hurl Smart Week aimed to increase activity levels of all ages, male and female by providing a programme of events in local camogie clubs. 82 clubs nationwide signed up to take part in the week.

Clubs ran a number of events with the aim of getting everyone active through Camogie/Hurling activities such as relay races, obstacle courses, wall ball challenges, target practice challenges, nutritional talks etc. Catherine Neary, President of the Camogie Association said: “This is the 5th year of this initiative with an increase in clubs taking part year on year.

The Camogie Association is keen to support communities and families in being physically active through this initiative and are delighted to support the Dream Bike Campaign as part of the week.”

Speaking about the initiative ChildFund CEO Michael Kiely said: “We are delighted and honored to be a part of the Camogie Association’s ‘Hurl Smart Week’, a fantastic event showcasing the passion for Camogie in local communities across Ireland. It is also a wonderful opportunity to support our Dream Bike initiative for vulnerable girls in Ethiopia, India, Mozambique, Sri Lanka & Uganda.”

STARS AND THEIR DRILLS:
“I enjoy the block-down drill. “You have two lads in the middle and two lads either side of them pucking in the ball. When your man gets the ball, you have to just block down the ball as much as possible. “They’re the kind of points you get in games that you shouldn’t get – when you block someone down like that (and turn over the ball). “It’s been big for Kilkenny. Brian Cody absolutely loves that drill. “I enjoy it myself because I use a 37” hurl so I have a good reach with it.” COLIN FENNELLY (BALLYHALE SHAMROCKS AND KILKENNY).

Healthy Club project:
Sixty clubs across Ireland (at least one from each county) launched their involvement in the innovative GAA’s Healthy Club project on the 8th of May during Lá na gClubanna celebrations.

This was the perfect opportunity for participating clubs to showcase all the positive health enhancing work being carried out at club level. A range of health and wellbeing initiatives were explored across the nation including Gaelic 4 Mothers, Dads and Lads, Go Games, Recreational Rounders, 5km family runs/walks, indoor bowling, zumba in the sun, céilís, healthy eating, alcohol awareness campaigns, health checks, CPR training, positive mental health, mindfulness and much more.

The Craobh Chiarain club, Dublin, located in Donnycarney, brought the city to the countryside to launch their involvement in the project. A fleet of double decker buses set out early morning to County Wicklow to climb the Great Sugar Loaf Mountains. Some neighbouring “Healthy Clubs”, such as Cavan Gaels and Killygarry joined forces and held an innovative joint launch with an Uachtaráin, Aogán Ó Fearghail in attendance.
