Tralee Photographer’s Beach Snap Is Runner-Up In RTE Competition

A TRALEE photographer will have his work shown on national television after being named a runner-up in the RTE weather summer photo competition.

John Ryle took a photo from a cave out in Ballybunion earlier in the summer and it grabbed the attention of the judges.

His striking image will now be shown on RTE on weather reports this Friday, July 21. John was delighted to hear the news.

“I have entered  various competitions over the years and have received recognition for my efforts. However this achievement is very special and I felt very proud when I received the news from RTE,” said the 26 year old.

“I have a passion for photography and developed an interest over the years since I purchased my first camera. We have a wonderful landscape and it’s about being in the right place at the opportune time to capture the special moment,”  said the recent graduate  from IT Tralee with a B.A. in TV, Radio and New Media Broadcasting.

John uses his photography skills regularly on a voluntary basis at Tralee junior parkrun and Tralee park run.

He is not the only Kerry photographer to feature this month. In fact, six other people from Kerry feature as runner ups in July.

A couple have featured so far this month, but Ita Hannon’s image of Beale Strand will be featured in Monday, July 24, Stephen O’ Shea’s photo of Westcove, Caherdaniel, will be seen on Wednesday, July 26, John Keane’s Tarbert lighthouse on July 28 and Joe O’Sullivan’s, Cromane Point, Castlemaine Harbour on July 29.
