The doubles of Alayna Gannon and Sarah Fitzgerald (J18), Paula Moloney and Catriona Donovan (Masters), and James Morris and Jim Breen (Masters) finished in first place in their respective races.

Heidi Giles, Tralee Rowing Club captain said that “the medals were the result of a lot of hard work put in by those crews. I am delighted for them and excited because we have many young rowers showing a love of the sport, every crew gained important racing experience and the memories are just as precious as the medals”.

The Castleconnell Sprint Regatta had over 500 crews competing in different junior and adult categories, coming from all over the country.

The racing course is of 500 meters, therefore the sprint regatta name. Tralee Rowing Club brought 30 athletes to this competition, with some of them racing four times in the day in different categories.

On the same day, the club had two other adult crews competing in a different competition, the Graiguenamagh Regatta in Co. Kilkenny. Two coxed quads raced there, including three novices in what was a great learning experience.

“Attending a rowing regatta with a club is a tiring but exhilarating experience involving thrills and challenges that give our adult rowers an escape from daily life and equip our juniors with skills they will need in the future. I am very proud of our growing club and the phenomenal effort from our coaching team and the support we receive from members and their families,” added Heidi Giles.
