STUDENTS from three Tralee schools are in Dublin this week for the annual BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.
There are sixteen Kerry projects in all competing at the event which gets underway in the RDS in Dublin on Wednesday, continuing until Saturday.
In Tralee, Mercy Mounthawk has four entrants this year, Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí has two and CBS The Green one project at the event.

Students from Mercy Mounthawk taking part have projects covering topics like the HPV vaccine uptake (Ella Itsede), STEM ed for girls (Olivia Moriarty and Tamila Kusssinovinova), homelessness (Ciara Murphy and Jessica Oke) and an antimicrobial screen for phones (Robin Porter).
Over in Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí, Aindriú ó Muimhneacháin and Seán ó Loinsigh have a project on antibiotic resistance and its relationship with agriculture, while Leah Ní Sheanacháin and Cian Ó Muireagáin’s project compares properties between a Cube and a Tetrahedron.

CBS The Green’s project was made by third year students Kian Trant, Séamus Knightly, and Conor Crowley with the supportive help of Ms Eilín Enright (Science Teacher) and all the Science Department.
The project is called BEAP, (Blind and Elderly Assistant project). The purpose of BEAP is to use Artificial Intelligences to help the visually impaired and elderly.
Elsewhere in Kerry there are four projects each from Killorglin Community College and twofrom Tarbert Comprehensive School, St Brendan’s College Killarney and one from St Brigid’s Secondary School Killarney.
There are 550 projects competing at the exhibition with the winner to be announced on Friday.
