The Men’s Grade 6 Team after their victory in the Semi Finals of The Munster Winter League: Des Healy, Shane Roche, Gerry Jeewoonarin and Chris Sun

It was a busy day yesterday, March 13, as we had four teams playing in the semi finals of the Munster Tennis Winter League.

GRADE 6 MEN

The Grade 6 Men welcomed Carrigaline Tennis Club. This match was always going to be tough, but Tralee played well and was very consistent on the day. Well done to Des who stepped in to play his first match at this level. After some great tennis, Tralee ran out 4-0 winners. The team have played well all season and practiced hard so it was great for them to get to the final.

GRADE 6 LADIES:

The Grade 6 ladies hosted Nenagh in what proved to be a tight and heartbreaking game. The first round of matches ended 1-1, with nothing splitting the sides. The second round of matches proved to be no different and it ended up 2-2, with the dreaded super-doubles to come after. Sadly it was not meant to be, and Nenagh managed to get the win in the end. Well done to Elaine for playing well throughout as this was her first external competition for the club.

It was a great game, and hard luck to the team of Triona Daly, Claire Dennehy, Elaine Larkin, and Brid Carroll.

GRADE 5 LADIES:

The Grade 5 ladies hosted Ennis Tennis Club. There was great tennis played by both teams and after the first round of matches, the game was even at 1-1. The next round of matches was much the same, being very tight, going to three sets. It could have gone either way, but sadly on the day, it went to Ennis.

Hard luck to the team of Pam Bailey, Danielle O’Sullivan, Siobhan O’Nuallain and Mags O’Grady

GRADE 5 MEN:

The Grade 5 Men’s were the only team to travel away, having had to make the trip up to Ennis Tennis Club. Despite the score of 3-1, the match proved to be a tight and hard fought one. After the team went 1-0 up, Ray and John had a hard fought three set match, which could have gone either way. Lucky for team, the guys remained calm and got the second for a 2-0 lead after the first round of matches.

There was calmness for the second round of matches, but this proved short lived as the nerves starting to kick in. Both matches in the second round of games went to three sets, and with the finish line so near, the match became tight, with no team wanting to make a mistake. Our lads proved to be the calmness, and got the one out of two needed to go through.

Well done to the team of: Ray Moroney, Stephen Roche, John Finnegan and Shane O’Sullivan.

The finals of the Munster Winter League will take place next week in Sundays Well Tennis Club and Bishopstown Tennis Club. Any supporters on the day will be greatly appreciated.

Ladies Night:

Ladies Night takes place every Monday night, at 8pm. All are welcomed, even if you are a beginner or used to playing. Signup sheet is in the clubhouse.
