TRALEE Tidy Towns is continuing to appeal to the people of Tralee to take part in a new survey (see link below) as part of a drive to get more people involved.

The Tidy Towns competition has evolved considerably in recent years with marks awarded for streetscaping, landscaping,  biodiversity, sustainability, tidiness, approach roads and housing areas.

For many years, Tidy Towns Groups like Tidy Tralee Together, Friends of Able and Team Bramble have been working to attain gold medals for Tralee in the competition.

Currently, these group organise clean-ups on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (meeting at Garvey’s Supervalu car park Tralee at 6.45pm) and on Sundays (meeting at the Lidl car park on the Castlemaine Road at 9am).

Tralee performed very well in 2019, ranked as one of the best large urban centres and the current committee have their sights set on winning the overall competition.

Anne Marie Fuller of Tralee Tidy Towns said: “the Tidy Towns Competition isn’t really just about litter picking and having a “tidy” town, it is much much more than that. It is about building a strong community spirit, place-making and working together to create and sustain thriving places that people are proud to call their own.”

“We have lots of talented people in Tralee and we want them to get involved in biodiversity and sustainability projects, planting programmes, school programmes and street art initiatives. We want people to come together and think about what they want Tralee to look like in 2 years, 5 years and 10 years. Joining the Tidy Towns team is a great opportunity to meet new people, build community spirit and  have fun.”

Gillian Wharton Slattery of Tralee Tidy Towns added: “A lot of different groups in Tralee come together under the Tralee Tidy Towns umbrella so there’s something for everyone here. We really hope people take part in this short survey so we can hear people’s views and build a database of people interested in getting involved. We are aware that people lead busy lives but we are encouraging everyone to help out and play some part, however big or small, in whatever category they feel relates to them. Our short survey will allow people to register their interest and specify the level of support they can provide.”
