The episode tonight features 15-year-old Josh Garvey from Rathfarnham who has Down Syndrome and is non-verbal.

He uses a tablet to speak, but it’s heavy, the volume is low, and it’s full of distractions. Can games designer John O’Donnell come up with a communication system for him that streamlines everything and allows him to express himself, at home, at school and in his all-important drama class?

John O’Donnell has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and a Masters in Electronic and Computer Engineering, both from University College Dublin.

Along the way, the rugby and music aficionado has been involved in the wearables and Internet of Things space, as well as rapid and iterative prototyping for creative applications.
