Five of the athletes from Kerry are from Tralee Triathlon Club who are proud that their club is well represented at the World Triathlon Championships.

Among them is Cillian Tierney, who was the first Irish athlete home in Dublin City Triathlon last weekend and who took 4th place overall.

The Spa teenager is fast becoming a name in the world of triathlon with a number of wins under his belt this season including a win at this home triathlon Tri Kingdom Come.

He will be representing Ireland in the elite race in Rotterdam which takes place on Saturday, September 16th.

Joining him to represent their country are Seamus Hoare, Paudie Murphy, Ciara Tierney and Suzanne O’Sullivan all of whom have trained hard to take their place on the international field representing Ireland at the ITU World Triathlon Championships on Sunday, September 17th.

All four are thrilled to be representing their club, county and their country in the sport of triathlon.

“We will be very proud to wear our country colours at the championships,” says Suzanne.

Seamus, Ciara and Paudie will all take part in the Sprint Distance race, a 750m swim, a 20k bike and a 5k run, while Suzanne is facing the Olympic Distance of 1500m swim, a 40k bike and a 10k run.

Chairman of Tralee Triathlon Club, John Quilter, says it is wonderful for the club and for Kerry to have these talented athletes represent their county and country.

“We are so proud of their achievements and we wish them every success at the World Championships. It is a huge honour for the athletes and for the club to have our triathletes representing Ireland.”

A fundraising quiz earlier this year helped raise funds for the athletes travelling to Rotterdam to pay for their Irish Trisuits and these funds were presented to the club’s athletes last week.

“Thanks to everyone who came to our quiz night. The funds are being used to purchase Trisuits for our athletes. The remainder of the funds is for the RNLI,” added John.

Meanwhile three Killarney triathletes are also in the line-up with Angie O’Sullivan, Declan O’Donoghue and Tim Horgan, also representing Kerry and Ireland at the ITU World Triathlon Championships.
