Tralee Woman Prepares For Gruelling Indoor ‘Ironman’ For Charity

Alison Reidy will hope to complete an indoor ‘Ironman’ in under 15 hours next week.

MOST of us recoil from the idea of any sort of exercise that could be described as gruelling, while some might not even know what an ‘Ironman’ is.

All of this is certainly not the case for Tralee woman, Alison Reidy.

She is currently preparing to go toe-to-toe with what can be aptly described as one of the most gruelling physical challenges out there, in an ‘Ironman’, all in aid of the ‘Hope Foundation’.

An Ironman is usually a multi-event sporting contest demanding stamina, in particular a consecutive triathlon of swimming, cycling, and running.

Alison plans to complete 3.8km swim in a 25 metre indoor pool, an 180km bike ride on a turbo followed by a 26.2 mile marathon which will be run on a treadmill next Tuesday in the Shannon Leisure Centre in Clare, where she currently works.

She has much more than physical strength, by putting her body to the limits to raise funds for the ‘Hope Foundation’, she is demonstrating her sheer generosity of spirit and strength emotionally as well.

This will not be Alison’s first time putting herself to the test, as she completed 10 triathlons over the course of 10 days back in 2013.

The Hope Foundation is a registered Irish Charity working to save the street and slum children of Kolkata (Calcutta) from lives of pain, abuse, poverty and darkness. Hope funds and operates over 60 projects due to the generosity of donors, sponsors, supporters and fundraisers.

If you would like to help Alison raise money for this worthy cause, then all the information can be found here.
