THEY came, they saw, but we conquered the Dubs last night in Austin Stack Park.
It was a memorable evening in the county capital and Kerry showed great promise for the season ahead when they beat Dublin by the bare minimum.
It also proved how important nights like this are for Tralee, as every pub in town was packed to the rafters last night and there was a fantastic atmosphere throughout.
The Dublin fans, more than any other, bring that special atmosphere and we’re just lucky in Tralee that they don’t have floodlights in Fitzgerald Stadium!
Such a great game of football prompted some high praise and analysis on Twitter. Here’s what they had to say…
Result aside, it was a pleasure to see so many Dublin supporters here in Tralee, the capital of Kerry, enjoying themselves yesterday

Just sat down to watch Kerry v Dublin. If ever there was a training video on how to attack by the two best teams in the country. Savage ball. #Gaa #KerryVDublin #KildareGaa #AttackingFootball

Proud of Kerry tonight. Older boys were brilliant and the young boys followed. If that game was in croker Dublin probably win. A full house makes a huge difference for a team , seriously good team play for Kerry’s winning point. TRALEE the support and atmosphere was top class 👏🏻 https://t.co/LMZq4jAtMv

Some game in Tralee last night! Two teams playing traditional, all out football until the final whistle.A very exciting Kerry team to watch but Dublin could have snuck it with 14 men.Looking forward to Mayo game already! Thanks to @RTEsport for the pressure cooker on&off the field pic.twitter.com/N6ctNiAvZl

The truth of the matter is, Kerry and Dublin gave Gaelic football a massive lift tonight with that game of high intensity, honesty, kick the ball, man on man action. When football is played like that it’s a great game. Hope teams and managers take note. #goforit #AllianzLeagues

We know Dublin don’t have much done, and we know Kerry do, and that it’s ‘only’ the league and some key names were missing, but that was wonderful fun in Tralee last night. Two teams taking each other on, utilising all the trappings of modern football. More please!

What a beautiful Tralee harvest.
Gaelic football as a renaissance masterpiece.
Kerry and Dublin placing ambition above cynicism.
A reminder of why this unique and beautiful game seizes the senses.

Dublin and Kerry was the best game I have seen since the 2014 semi between the two we need more games like that end to end football

If you want to beat Dublin, you have to have the courage to go for it.
With the game level, Kerry have corner back Peter Crowley standing six yards out waiting to put over the winner in the 74th minute.pic.twitter.com/x7KrBaRb1x

Weeshie would have been in his element tonight. Analysizing to the bitter end. Twas a fantastic game, but nothing is won in feb and there’s plenty the kerry management will take from tonight. The Dublin management too…….but damn it was impressive

Back home after a thrilling game in Austin Stack Park – the young guns of Kerry certainly have a great future – football played this way is a joy to behold – fair play to Dublin and Kerry I’d watch that every night of the week 👍

Cracking fare in Tralee. Real sense that if there is any team going to derail Dublin’s five in a row, it’s Kerry. Sean O’Shea and Dara Moynihan adding an ‘x factor’ up front and serious pace and young legs in the team. Brilliant advertisement for Gaelic football.

I must say its really heart warming to have met and read on social media how well the @DubGAAOfficial fans enjoyed Tralee and the atmosphere – they enjoyed the banter and the craic and while disappointed at result – they know what the bigger picture is – its Championship 👏👏👏
