The Kerry County Council event gets under way at 11am with a formal raising of the national flag at Páirc An Phiarsaigh, Denny Street, by Mayor Thomas McEllistrim and a reading of the 1916 Proclamation by Unity Ankomah, a student at Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School, Tralee.
It will then be followed by an oration by Dr. John O’Callaghan, a lecturer in History and Education at St Angela’s College, Sligo, at 11.15am while the laying of the wreath Ceremony at the Pearse Memorial will take place at 11.30am followed by coffee at Grand Hotel.
The Sinn Féin annual commemoration will leave The Square at 12.30pm and proceed to the Republican Plot in Rath graveyard.
The event will be chaired by Councillor Pa Daly from Tralee, while new Sinn Féin TD, Carol Nolan from Offaly, will be the keynote speaker.
Speaking ahead of the commemoration, Deputy Nolan, said; “Sinn Féin remains committed to the realisation of the vision of 1916 and the implementation of the principles of the Proclamation. This year we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Rising. This is an occasion to both reflect upon the legacy of the Rising and Proclamation, and the relevance they still hold today.”

“Kerry played a pivotal role in the events surrounding the Rising and the first casualties took place here, I am honoured to be the speaker at this years commemoration in Tralee and I look forward to meeting with my comrades who have kept alive the memory of the brave men and women of 1916,” she said.

Sounds great. Unfortunately I have been invited to the reenactment of the battle of Ashbourne with the cousins so I will be on my way on Sunday.

Hope you have a great day, but sinn fein tralee never leave our hero’s down any easter, even all those easters when it wasn’t cool to mark 1916.
