TWO men who hurled with distinction for their clubs and county will be remembered this weekend in two tournaments.
The 2015 Gary Scollard (Under 16) and Todd Nolan tournaments were launched last Friday in the John Mitchels GAA Complex by Robert Frost, Cathaoirleach, Comhairle na Mumhan.
They go ahead on this Saturday, March 28, each commencing at 12.15p.m.
The Gary Scollard tournament is a straight final between Kerry and Limerick and it takes place at Connolly Park, Tralee.
It commemorates the former Kerry and Austin Stacks dual player, Gary Scollard who won an All-Ireland Senior ‘B’ hurling medal in 1976 with Kerry, an All-Ireland Senior Club football medal (1977) and three Co. senior football championship medals (1973, 1975, 1976) with Austin Stacks. He also played in three losing Co. Senior hurling finals (1968, 1969, 1974).
The Todd Nolan tournament involves the Kerry Minors and Under 17 Development squads from Cork, Limerick and Clare and will be played at the John Mitchels Complex. The semi-final pairings are Kerry v Limerick and Cork v Clare.
This tournament, which commenced in 2008, commemorates the former Kerry and Crotta O’Neill’s hurler, Todd Nolan – he also played Railway Cup hurling with Munster in 1969 and won a Co. Senior Championship medal in 1968.
