HUNDREDS braved the poor weather on Friday night as the Bon Secours and Kerry General Hospital played a charity soccer in Gallowsfield.
The match was named the Tom Naughton Cup after the former Bons empolyee who passed away recently while the late Brendan McEvoy and Mike Nagle, who were great friends of Kerry General, were also remembered at the start of the game with minute’s silence.
Tom’s two sons led out the teams in front of a crowd of about 250 people.
In a thriller, the Bons were leading 3-1 with six minutes to go when KGH got two late goals. The match ended 3-3 and went to penalties but it was the General who prevailed in the end.
Entry was €5 with all proceeds going towards the Palliative Care Unit and one of the organisers told TraleeToday.ie on Monday that over €2,000 had been raised so far, with more money due in. It was a fantastic event and the apres match festivities continued into the night!
