Two Kerry Nursing Home Employees Up For National Awards

Maura Moriarty of Ocean View Nursing Home, Camp is shortlisted for a Nursing Home Catering & Nutrition Award.

TWO Kerry finalists are preparing for the Nursing Homes Ireland Care Awards 2017.

Maeve Poff of Mowlam Healthcare Killarney Nursing Home is shortlisted for a Nursing Home Registered Nurse of the Year Award, while Maura Moriarty of Ocean View Nursing Home, Camp is shortlisted for a Nursing Home Catering & Nutrition Award.

There are 27 finalists across a range of disciplines within the nursing home sector are going forward to the national awards ceremony final that will take place Thursday, November 16 at Citywest Hotel, Co Dublin.

The awards recognise excellent care provided across a range of disciplines within nursing homes and innovative practice in care provision.

Maura Moriarty is an experienced Chef and has worked as Catering Manager in Ocean View for the last nine years. She wears her heart on her sleeve, catering is her passion.

She knows each resident, their likes, their dislikes, and more importantly there dietary requirements, ensuring the nutritional needs of all residents are catered for.

It is said, the kitchen is the heart of a home, Maura has ensured her kitchen is the heart of our residents home. Her enthusiasm inspires those around her to constantly strive for choice and variety in the daily presentation of high quality nutritional meals.

Maeve Poff graduated with BSc Honours in General Nursing from the Institute of Technology Tralee in 2013 and commenced working in Mowlam Killarney the following year.

With an interest in care of the older person, Maeve became passionate about her work in Killarney Nursing Home and with the whole team strived for a better quality and service of care. Making changes in collaboration with management, made way for a more positive environment for the residents and a more enjoyable working environment for staff. Maeve was appointed senior staff nurse in 2015 and has undertaken a Diploma in Leadership this year.

There are three finalists within nine award categories and the integral role of residents within nursing home life is recognised through a special resident achievement award. RTE’s Marty Whelan will MC the awards ceremony.

Entries of an exceptional standard were received from communities across the country, from people who work, live and visit nursing homes. To reach the final is a magnificent achievement. The Mowlam Healthcare Killarney Nursing Home and Ocean View Nursing Home communities, and those beyond their doors, should be immensely proud of their finalists’ achievements.

The NHI Care Awards are a celebration of the fantastic care being provided by dedicated individuals and care teams in our 370 nursing homes in communities across Ireland.

They celebrate the exceptional dedication of staff and nursing homes in meeting and going beyond the health and social care needs of people within these homes from home.”
