TWO Kerry men will be hoping get their Christmases off to a winning start spinning the wheel when they appear on the National Lottery Winning Streak game show this Saturday.

Mark Sugrue, who comes from Castleisland is the first of two players this week on Winning Streak from the Kingdom.

Mark got a call from his grandmother, Maureen who was overcome with excitement that her grandson had been drawn out of the Winning Streak drum to appear on the show next week.

Mark has been a barman for more than 10 years and is getting ready for his busiest time of the year as the festivities begin to peak.

He works in Kearney’s bar in Castleisland, a job he has had for about four months now. In fact his boss, Betty O’Connell, will be among his supporters in the audience on the night.

Mark is one of three children – he has two sisters, Lorraine and Leanne – who are excited to support him along with their parents, Maura and Denis. The family are having a double celebration this weekend as Mark’s Winning Streak-mad grandmother, Lil will be marking her birthday.

Mark has been receiving a lot of good luck messages from all his neighbours all week and admits he isn’t the luckiest person and normally “wouldn’t win an argument” but hopes that will all change come Saturday night.

Next is Dave Morris who is originally from Inchicore in Dublin but now living in Cromane.

Dave Morris was with his sister Anne Morris when she got a call on Saturday evening and when he saw the expression on her face, he feared something bad had happened.

Low and behold it was a call to say that she had been chosen to appear on Winning Streak. In the midst of all the celebrations, Anne realised that she was to travel to New York City this Wednesday for a shopping trip with her daughter Ellie.

Eventually all eyes turned to Dave, who was up visiting Anne with his children, who is living in Cromane. He has no hesitation in stepping up to the plate and going on Winning Streak for his sister.

Originally from Inchicore in Dublin, Dave has been living in Cromane for the past 11 years. His wife Valerie is from the town so the couple decided to make the move down south when he got the opportunity to make the move with work.

He has been married to Valerie for the past 14 years and the couple have three children: Lily, Anna and Jack who are all excited to be cheering their dad on this weekend.

Dave is a member of the Garda Siochana and his beat is the Portmagee and Valentia Island areas. His is a one-man station so he knows the local community inside out and vice versa.

Dave says that his sister Anne, who lives in Lucan, Dublin, is such a generous person that she really does deserve this and he hopes to do her proud on the show as he is seeking to win her a small fortune to come home to after her shopping trip in the Big Apple!

Winning Streak, the National Lottery game show, co-presented by Marty Whelan and Sinead Kennedy, will be broadcast on RTÉ One this Saturday, December 1 at 8:15pm
