TWO teams from Tralee Tennis Club have been crowned Munster Champions after a long Winter League campaign ended in victory at the finals, which took place in Sundays Well Tennis Club, Cork, on Sunday, March 20.

The Grade 5 Men’s team consisted of Ray Moroney, Stephen Roche, John Finnegan and Shane O’Sullivan and they had a total of nine matches in the competition. The team has played against clubs from Clare, Limerick and Cork, before winning the final 4-0 against Monkstown of Cork.

The Grade 6 Men’s team consisted of Gerry Jeewoonarain, Shane Roche, Chris Sun and Des Healy and they also had long run in the competition, playing six games in total.

Their final, against Catholic Institute of Limerick, proved to be much different than the 5’s as after a 2-2 draw, it came down to a sudden death of one set, where the team had to battle from 4-0 down to win 7-5  and take the title home with a score of 3-2.

The teams have worked hard since the competition started back in November, and despite a long day starting at 8am, they enjoyed a day great out with the supporters who travelled to the match.
