LAST weekend, Tralee man, Brian Carlin, was involved in a shipwreck when the yacht in which he was travelling in the Volvo Ocean Race  was grounded on a remote archipelago in the Indian Ocean.

The Tralee man, an onboard reporter, captured the dramatic incident on camera which can be seen below.

All nine crew members from Team Vestas Wind are safe after the ordeal that began when their yacht was grounded on a remote archipelago in the Indian Ocean on Saturday.

The nine crew remained on board the boat until the early hours of the following morning before abandoning ship and wading in knee-deep water to a dry portion of the reef.

The crew stayed on Ile Du Sud for nearly two days, before boarding a local fishing vessel and returning to Mauritus.
