IT’S set to be a great afternoon of fun in The Mall on Saturday at the second Annual Christmas Office Chair Racing Competition in aid of St Vincent de Paul.
Following on from the success of last year’s inaugural event, the event gets underway from 3pm and you can expect the action to be fierce competitive on the day.
Shops, banks, hotels, pubs, restaurants, law firms, hospitals, schools, politicians and sports clubs have been asked to take part in what promises to be a hilarious event on the last weekend before Christmas.

Some of the participants scheduled to take part include Mags O’Sullivan of the Aqua Dome; Sandra Leahy from Kerry County Museum; Mike McDonnell – Woodlands Caravan Park, Rebecca Kemp – Rose of Tralee International Festival; Paul O’Connor – Denis Moriarty Plant Hire; Sorcha Finnegan – Fels Point Hotel; Fintan Ryan – Tralee Credit Union; David Scott – Tralee Chamber Alliance; Miriam McGillicuddy – Solicitor; Jimmy Kelliher – Casey & Co Accountants; Eoin O’Neill – Peevers Cotter Slye; Cllr John Brassil; ; Cllr Terry O’Brien; Mayor of Kerry Cllr Pat McCarthy; Niall Drumm – Copywrite and John Drummey taking part for Achieve Fitness.
Cllr Sam Locke, Michael Healy-Rae TD and Arthur Spring may also be joining them on the day while Mark Leen will be MC for the event.
Bottoms must stay on the seats during races and while the competitors in the first heats will be allowed to travel backwards, the later rounds will be more difficult.
There will be six heats featuring 18 local business people and elected representatives in what promises to be a fun family pre-Christmas event.
All the chairs have wheels and in order to win a race, the competitors must keep their bottoms firmly on the seat of the chair and only use their legs to propel themselves forward towards the finish line.
Last year’s event was won by Cllr Terry O’Brien and Cllr Toireasa Ferris in a dead-heat as you can see from our video below…
