THE people at Tralee Rowing Club had a busy weekend of fundraising, as club members took part in a 24-hour ‘Rowathon’.

Taking place from 2pm on Saturday and right through until the same time on Sunday, the rowers had help from other crews from Portmagee, Fenit and Caherdaniel and a Government minister.

Minister Jimmy Deenihan and other local politicians were there to see off the first rowers on Saturday in dry conditions with many onlookers also giving their support.

Conditions were favourable all through the night for the various crews and Minister Deenihan even took to the boat himself in the early afternoon sunshine on Sunday.

There was a great cheer from club members and their families as the final two crews made their way back at 2pm to finish the event.

“We hope to have met our target of €15,000. People were excellent with their support,” said Eileen Harkin who explained that the funds will be used to kit out the inside of the new clubhouse.
