THE inaugural Kerins O’Rahilly’s 10k run was a huge success with 400 taking part yesterday morning.
It was cold, but the rain cleared just in time for the runners to take off from the clubhouse at 10am for the route which took them up around the Kerries and Fenit Road area and back again.
The organisers were delighted with the turnout.

“We actually had to turn people away in the end, which we didn’t like doing,” said Peter Nolan of the organising committee.
“Our insurance only covered up to 400 participants. It’s beyond our expectations and we’re delighted with the help we got from everybody. A lot of local clubs took part and that’s great to see as we’re all working together. If they do something similar, we’ll also participate in that,” said Peter.
The Kerry Crusaders team, of Vincent O’Leary, Fozzy Forrestal, Mike Kissane and John Kennelly were the winners of the Men’s Team award while the Na Gaeil ladies team of Sharon Cahill, Elizabeth Heaslip and Mary O’Connor were the first team to be presented with John Dowling 10K Shield.
It is to be an annual event with the 2016 run taking place on January 31.
