IT was a long and rewarding day for hundreds of runners yesterday as they completed their full and half marathons in town.
The weather cleared up in the early morning to provide perfect conditions for the fit bunch of runners as they made their way around the route.
Marcus Howlett of Run The Kingdom was delighted with the Kerry’s Eye-sponsored event.
“We sold out the event We had about 300 for the full and between 450 and 500 for the half marathon. There was a lot of non-locals down as well so it’s great for the local economy. I was speaking to people in hotels who were saying they were booked out and even fruit and veg suppliers were saying they were getting extra orders over the weekend so it’s great for the town. We’ve four [marathons] down now so it’s on to year five,” said Marcus.
The runners finished up the routes running down Neil Armstrong Way in the Town Park and crossing the finish line near the Ashe Memorial Hall, to great cheers from fellow runners and spectators.
