CHILDREN all over the country got out this morning for some physical activity as part of the Operation Transformation TV show drive to get people more healthy and active.
Among the Tralee schools taking part in the ’10@10′ – which asked schools to take 10 minutes exercise at 10am – were the pupils of Listellick NS and despite the cold, there was glorious sunshine on the hill for them as they enjoyed a zumba session.
“We’re delighted to be part of the Operation Transformation initiative,” said Principal of the school, Annette Dineen. “The children are loving zumba and it’s great to have a former pupil here, Padraig O’Mahony, to work with kids,” she added.
Padraig’s energy was infectious and he really got the kids moving, from juniors right up top sixth class through the morning.
Physical activity is very important at Listellick and they are launching a new initiative at the end of the month.
“We’re doing ‘Walk A Marathon’ over 42 days where the pupils will walk 1km every day at school and at home on Saturdays and Sundays. Minister Jimmy Deenihan who is chairman of the Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership will launch the initiative,” said Annette.
