THERE’LL be a fantastic family fun day held in Shanakill later this month to raise vital funds for the local resource centre.

The Shanakill Family Resource Centre will be buzzing with activity on May 15 to celebrate the ‘Day of Families’ kicking off at 2pm with a BBQ, bouncy castle, sports events, face painting, coffee shop and cakes, plant sale, raffles and music.

The centre, which has been up and running since 1984, is badly in need of funding to keep up the amazing work they provide to the local community.

Bernadette O’Carroll, Project Co-Ordinator at the Centre, explained the importance of such an event and the services they provide.

“We employ about 30 people between Community Employment and permanent staff. We provide services such as pre-school, creche, after-school activities, youth activities, adult education classes, everything really. We have a wonderful voluntary team here,” she said.

“The funding is there for wages, but overheads is where we get caught. We’re constantly fundraising for that. We’re put the pin of our collar in those terms, so we’re having a fun family-oriented day on May 15. We’re asking people, not just in our area, but around Tralee to please buy the tickets and come along,” said Bernadette.
