BACK in 1966, RTE broadcasted ‘Discovery In Tralee’ which showed off the town’s advances into modern living as it was at the time.
Thanks to the RTE Archives website, we can sample the sights and sound of what the likes of The Mall and St Brendan’s Park were like 50 years ago.
Cameras also pay a visit to the Presentation Convent and the the old Technical College (now Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí), which, obviously, has not changed a whole lot since. ‘Discovery in Tralee’ went out on RTE One at 7:15pm, October 13, 1966.
The show highlighted the towns agricultural past and how it had been industrialised with the factories that sprang up around the place and brought some prosperity. Watch the footage HERE
