Fidelma Fitzgerald.

With the restrictions extended for a further three weeks, local writer, Fidelma Fitzgerald, said there is still much to be grateful for in our lives under the shadow of COVID-19…

TO the good people of Tralee and surrounding areas, many of us recall the great Boomtown Rats and their No.1 hit single ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ and how it became a sort of rebellious tune for those that wanted to “shoot the whole day down”.

Let’s briefly look at why I/we can like all days?  In today’s uncertain times, what are we certain of and what are we capable of?

Well today, the 13th of April, we all now know that it’s Monday to begin with (just in case you have forgotten due to being house bound!) and it’s good to be alive.

If you are fortunate enough to be reading this, then you know you have your sense of sight, if you have the luxury of someone reading this to you, then you have the blessing of hearing.

If there is a person singing this to you, I suggest you take them for a limited breath of fresh air in the 2km limit, the perfect prescription for energy release.

If you are one of these people who can get out, be grateful for your physical health and the air provided by the miraculous universe.

For those of you working from home, did you ever think it would be such a luxury? Enjoy it as this too will pass.

For those of you who think you are alone, I assure you, you are not.  You may be the only person in the house, but alone? No. Never.  You are your very best company. Enjoy it, be creative, be ok.

For those of a childlike disposition, go wild and make this time precious. You’re as young as you feel.  For the parents and children, be together. Your gift will never really show its true value until it’s gone. So, embrace it with all you got. How lucky you are to be a family.

If you have a pen and paper, pick them up and use them. Write someone a letter of love and friendship.  Even if those loved ones or friends are no longer with us. Say what you need to, now that you have time.

For the food that we eat, give thanks. For the healthcare workers, they are God’s army today.  For each and every one of us re/read what’s just been said.  Take time, be still and pray. You are going to be more than okay!
