A WELL-KNOWN Kerry doctor has been shortlisted in a category in a National GP Awards.
GPBuddy.ie, the online resource for GPs in Ireland, has announced details of the shortlisted nominees for this year’s GPBuddy National GP Awards and Dr Eamonn Shanahan (Farranfore Medical Centre, Farranfore) is shortlisted in the ‘GPs in the Media’ category.
Dr Shanahan — the only Kerry GP shortlisted — will be well known to listeners of Radio Kerry’s ‘Talkabout’ programme where he has a regular medical slot and answers questions from the public.

Now in its second year, the annual GPBuddy Awards Ceremony recognises excellence, innovation and collaboration among GPs all over Ireland. The general public was asked to nominate their local GP in a number of categories.
This year’s judging panel received a record number of nominations across all 12 categories, from both healthcare professionals and patients. The overall winners will be announced on Friday 22nd September by television personality and GP, Dr Pixie McKenna, at Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel.
The judging panel comprises experts from across the medical, healthcare, media and business sectors.

Dr Eamonn Shanahan is well deserving of this award. He looked after my parents for years and without him, I am confident they wouldn’t have lived as long and pain free. He is as knowledgeable- and more on several occasions- than numerous consultants they have come across. A true gentleman and I feel very strongly that his manner, knowledge and professionalism may finally be recognised publicly.
Eamonn as Dr Shanahan is known to his patients and I am one and also my son his wife and baby. The Farranfour medical Centre with Eamonn’s team of doctors treat there patients with great respect and dignity and kindness and talk and listen to there patients not above them but beside them I could not praise them enough so thorough and professional in there medical care . Dr Eamonn Shanahan truly deserves this award a gentleman and a brilliant doctor that loves medicine and always open to learning and training
