Wettest August Day Since 1986 Recorded At Valentia Observatory

LAST month was a very wet one in this part of the country, judging by the rainfall levels in Valentia Observatory.

The monthly climate report from Met Éireann released yesterday showed that 219.7 mm of rain (191% of its Long-Term Average) fell at Valentia Observatory last month, the highest level in the country and the wettest August in Valentia since 2009.

The month’s wettest day in the country was also recorded at Valentia with 52.0 mm on Monday the 24th, the wettest August day recorded there since 1986.

However, the picture looks a bit better over the next few days with little rain forecast for Kerry between now and Monday.

Today will see sunshine and long dry spells with the threat of an odd shower, temperatures of about 18° with moderate to fresh west to southwest breezes.

Temperatures will drop a couple of degrees for the weekend though and there will be a threat of a few more showers, but there’ll be plenty of chances to get out and enjoy the fresh air.
