Wheelchair Basketball Match Raises Cash For Kingdom Wheelblasters

LAST week Mercy Mounthawk transition year students took on their teachers in an annual wheelchair basketball match that raised €165 for local club the Kingdom Wheelblasters.

No mercy was shown by teachers who continued their winning streak over students in front of a big crowd in the school gymnasium. It was part of a number of activities for Health And Activity Week at the school.

Students who are also members of Kingdom Wheelblasters wheelchair basketball club also took part in the student/teacher ‘grudge’ match.

Kingdom Wheelblasters have been going for over two years now and are around 20 strong with players from the ages of 4 to 17 taking part in matches in John Mitchels GAA Complex and Cumann Iosaef.

The club also takes part in wheelchair hurling, tag rugby, boccia, hand cycling and has just recently begun yoga classes for members. Those with physical disabilities from all over Kerry are welcome to join the club which is a member of the Irish Wheelchair Association.
