The Lixnaw team have 13 players nominated for the Kerry Hurling All-Star Awards which takes place this weekend.

THE Kerry Hurling All Stars 2014 will be held in Parker’s Bar, Kilflynn on this Saturday night at 7.30pm.

The annual awards night, now in its second year, was the brain child of TraleeToday.ie’s hurling analyst, Mike O’Halloran who, along with the meticulous work of Timmy Sheehan set up an event to honour the best 15 players in their respective positions in this year’s County Senior Hurling Championship.

Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success, both as a sporting and social occasion. Eight players who featured in last year’s team have again been nominated, and the indications are that it could well be a quite interesting selection again this time round.

St Brendan’s with six awards were the most honoured in 2013 with Lixnaw (4), Causeway (3) and Kilmoyley (2) also featuring.

On this occasion all eight clubs who participated in this year’s Championship have players who have been nominated. County champions Lixnaw have thirteen players included with the runners up, Kilmoyley having nine of their team on the list.

Apart from the All Star team there will also be Awards for both the Senior and Young Player of the Year. Special sporting guests on the night will present the Awards. Last year outstanding dual player Johnny Culloty and Munster rugby player J.J. Hanrahan did the honours.

Proceedings will get underway at 7.30pm with a drinks reception. The presentations will commence at 8pm and all of the formal activities will be completed by 9.30pm.

Admission is by ticket only and these have been distributed through the various nominees, sponsors, and clubs.

There’s prizes for the best dressed male and female attendees so, it promises to be, once again, a special occasion for the Kerry hurling community.

Mike O’Halloran with Timmy Sheehan of Radio Kerry and The Kerryman will be the Masters of Ceremonies in Parkers Function Room Kilflynn. The event is made possible thanks to the financial assistance of the hurling clubs and sponsors.

The bespoke presentation pieces are hand made especially for the event by Kerry Crafted Glass in Killarney.
