KERRY County Council (KCC) is currently finalising the tender process for major resurfacing works on the N86 Tralee to Dingle Road at Gleann na Gealt, Camp, according to Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin, has confirmed that

Minister Griffin received confirmation that it is intended to have a contractor appointed and the works commenced early in the new year on what is one of the worst surfaces of any stretch of national road in the county.

Minister Griffin said: “I am glad that the works will begin in a few weeks time and they can’t come quickly enough. This is by far one of the worst sections of national road in Kerry.

“I lobbied Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) hard for the funding for this project. At one stage, I even made a video showing how poor the condition of the surface at Gleann na Gealt is and sent it directly to the CEO of TII, Michael Nolan. I was therefore glad to receive confirmation recently that additional funding would be allocated to Kerry to address this stretch of road and I am very keen to see the works completed at the earliest possible date.

“The road is exceptionally poor on this stretch, which is very busy with people travelling between Dingle and Tralee. When this work is completed, it will greatly complement the three sections of the N86 that have now been majorly upgraded through significant government funding, with €8 million being spent on the most recent upgrades at Lispole and Camp. I want to see the next phases of the overall upgrade project progressing in 2019, with Ballynasare to Annascaul and Doonore to Ballygarret next in line.”
