A MULTI-MILLION euro project to lay a new water mains from Ashill to Farmers Bridge is set to begin this month, while work to prevent flooding in Ardfert will also start in the coming weeks.

Speaking at the meeting of Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council on Monday, Senior Executive Engineer Colm Mangan said Irish Water have made funding available for the construction of the Ashill project which will begin in November.

An update will be given to landowners in the area on the project which involves laying 3.7km of the new mains. Mr Mangan said this was welcome news as there have been problems with the water mains in the area over the years.

Meanwhile in Ardfert, work is set to begin on substantial drainage works, including manhole upgrading and construction, the laying of a storm overflow pipe to the adjacent 600MM surface water pipe and the provision of extra road gullies, near the Station Road junction in the coming weeks.

These works will enable the drainage system to cater for the flood waters which flow in from the Tralee Road and Station Road at times of intense rainfall.

When that job is complete, work will then begin on laying 7km of a new water mains from Listellick to Tubrid, Ardfert. This work is scheduled to be completed by May of 2022.
