719px-WC-2014-Brasil.svgFIRST up today it’s Belgium v Russia, followed by South Korea v Algeria and finally the USA v Portugal.

Belgium v Russia

Belgium were put to the test by Algeria in the opening round match, but eventually they showed their class and pulled through. Russia as predicted fell flat, with a very young side which Fabio Copello is said to be building towards the next World Cup which they are hosting.

With so much lack of intent from Russia and Belgium shaking off their early jitters, it’s very difficult to see anything other then a victory for the lowlanders.

Paddy Power will give you odds of 4/1 on a draw half time, Belgium full time.

South Korea v Algeria

Algeria impressed in their game against Belgian while South Korea  put in a lacklustre display in what was a bad game against Russia. As it stands, its hard to see why the Koreans are favorites for this given how  poor they performed.

Algeria’s young side look much more up for a fight in Brazil, Bet365 will give you 11/1 for Algeria to win 2-1.

 USA v Portugal

“USA! USA! USA!” Bloody hell, why is that so annoying?

The American nation like a bandwagon and by God are they on the ‘sawker’ one right now. John Brooks Jr made a household name for himself with his 86th minute winner against Ghana.

Team USA have a reputation for a never say die attitude on the World stage, which is admirable, and they will fear nothing from Portugal who still harbour doubts over Christiano Ronaldo’s fitness. The Ballon d’Or winner was spotted with his left knee heavily iced at training this week.

Portugal are also missing their two other Real Madrid men, full back Fábio Coentrão who was sadly  ruled out for the rest of the World Cup and Pepe who is suspended and is hopefully seeking psychiatric help.

This is a tricky one, but with so many key players and leaders missing for Portugal, I think the US could sneak this. It’s in their make up to not care and go for it. Boylesports will give you 4/1 odds for a US win.
